PWGH stands for Psychiatric Ward in the General Hospital. It is an open department for adults, so stay is on a voluntary basis. The ward is intended for short-term admissions for people with mild psychiatric problems.

At the PAAZ, we offer patients the opportunity to take a break and some distance from their surroundings. It is a safe environment aimed at improving your mental health. The duration of admission is not fixed but is determined on a case-by-case basis. During your stay, we propose treatment according to your needs aimed at a faster reintegration into society. A longer stay may sometimes be necessary and we can also refer you to specialised centres.

Ward Rules

During your stay, there are some rules to stick to, so that we can guarantee appropriate treatment. Failure to comply with the agreements may result in discontinuation of the treatment at our hospital.

  • Aggression: no forms of aggression will be tolerated.
  • Rooms: in order to respect each other's privacy, it is not allowed to visit other patients' rooms. You also have to make sure to keep your room orderly and tidy. You are not allowed to decide who you want to share your room with, so the room arrangement cannot be changed.
  • Clothing: sleepwear is only for during the night. From breakfast onwards, clean and decent day clothes and shoes are worn.
  • Personal belongings and valuable items: personal belongings and valuable items should best be left at home. You do, however, have a safe in your wardrobe. Dangerous and/or sharp objects are not permitted. In case of suspected theft, we will ask permission to check your room and personal belongings.
  • Multimedia: the use of multimedia is permitted, except during therapy sessions. Make sure not to disturb your fellow patients while using your devices.
  • Smoking: smoking is only allowed outside on the patio near the reception. A general smoking ban applies in all other areas of JYZ.
  • Medication: medication is distributed at fixed times. It is not permitted to take medication without the psychiatrist's permission. If you bring your own medication, vitamins, food supplements, etc., you have to hand those over to the nurses. You will get those back on discharge.
  • Substances: The use of alcohol, medicines or drugs is not permitted. Energy drinks and other stimulants are also strongly discouraged. At any time you can be subjected to an alcohol test, refusal is considered to be a positive result.
  • Meals: all meals are served in the day room. If you want to eat in your room, please discuss this with the nurses.
  • Rules of conduct: treat other patients and staff with respect. Borrowing and lending items from and to each other is not permitted at the ward. It is also forbidden to take photographs or make videos of your fellow patients and staff.
  • Identification: It is important to wear your identification bracelet at all times.

We ask visitors not to use the living area.
