Disease

Pheochromocytoma

A pheochromocytoma is a rare tumour of the adrenal gland. This tumour produces too many stress hormones and is sometimes malignant. The main symptoms are headache, palpitations, sweating, high blood pressure, feeling anxious with chest pressure, nausea and paleness.

If you suspect this, please contact your GP. Bring the results of any blood samples/urine tests with you to the endocrinology consultation. You are not required to fast. An additional blood test, urine tests and/or other tests may also be performed, e.g. CT adrenal glands. After the diagnosis, we will determine the further policy together with you. Treatment often consists of adjusting the blood pressure-lowering medication and surgically removing the tumour.
