Radiography of the uterus (hysterography)

What is the examination?

It is an examination of the uterus and fallopian tubes. The gynaecologist will inject a contrast agent so that the uterus is clearly visible on the radiographs.

Preparation for the examination

It is best to do this examination during the first twelve days of the menstrual cycle (after menstruation and before ovulation). This rule of course no longer applies after menopause.

Please let our nurses know if you think you may be pregnant.

Examination process

The patient lays on the radiology table in a gynaecological position. The gynaecologist inserts a speculum in the vagina together with a type of cannula that is inserted in the cervix. A contrast agent is injected in the uterus before the radiologist takes radiographs in different directions.

The examination lasts approximately 20 minutes.

Result

The specialist at the hospital will receive the result. You can go back to him/her after the examination.

Please contact your treating doctor for more information.
