Pastoral service

Being admitted to the hospital often raises a lot of questions, while it also brings out emotions. The pastors are always ready to have a quiet conversation about being sick, about sadness and joy, fear and powerlessness.

Based on our Christian inspiration we try to be there for each patient and their family, as well as with our staff, regardless of their philosophy of life. We accompany them in their search for meaning and purpose in what happens to them in life.

Reflection, prayer and the celebration of sacraments are also ways that can help people deal with joy, sorrow, parting and grief. At the hospital we offer Baptism, Anointing of the Sick and the Eucharist.

The pastoral service is embedded in the patient counselling service. This means we provide multidisciplinary cooperation with other services and care teams. We look after the spiritual side of the counselling process in particular. If required, we refer to representatives of other faith communities.

Chapel (route 16)

The chapel provides opportunity for prayer or reflection. You can also light an LED candle and write down your intentions.

For Catholic worship:

There is an opportunity to receive Holy Communion on Sunday. This can be daily if required. Please contact the head nurse or the pastoral service.

Silent area (route 34)

Because silence is beneficial and healing, the Jan Yperman Hospital opened the Silent Area at the heart of the building, where people of all faiths and visions can stop for a moment, recuperate, or form a community with others.
