Rehabilitation

The cornerstone of treatment is rehabilitation. A physiotherapist plays an important role in this process.

The pain is often caused by a balance disorder in the muscle groups around your knee, and the right muscle groups need to be trained. A physiotherapist obviously cannot do muscle building for you.

It is important that you practice a lot to strengthen the right muscle around your knee and reduce the pressure on your kneecap. The muscles of the upper leg act as a lever, reducing the pressure on the kneecap and thus relieving the pain.

Cartilage supplements may additionally be useful to relieve pain. A knee brace can also relieve pain, but should not be worn all day. Injections can also be a part of the treatment for more persistent cases. The products that can be injected are cortisone, hyaluronic acid or PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma).

In very exceptional cases, surgery is indicated, if, for example, there are underlying axis deviations or truly unstable cartilage lesions.
