The widely known Vogeltjesgang (Bird Walk) was the first art project in the new Jan Yperman Hospital. It forms a place where visitors and patients can slow down, close their eyes and imagine themselves enveloped by greenery, if only for a moment.
Competition
The search for an original design for the brand-new hospital, Jan Yperman Hospital launched a competition, and an art committee was formed. The winning project was selected from 25 entries. The official name of the artwork is Parkscène #01 and it was created by artist duo David Neirings and Mo Becha.
Park feel
The Vogeltjesgang (Bird Walk) is a long glass passageway that connects the old and new hospital buildings. A sound system emits soft, soothing sounds here, such as birdsong and children playing. Artificial grass was fitted on the patios, enhancing the illusion of a park.
