Anal fissure

An anal fissure is a small and superficial tear in the anal canal.

This causes pain and often blood loss. It runs lengthwise and is usually located on the midline fold, front or back of the anus. Fissures occur frequently. They are often confused with other causes of blood loss or pain, such as haemorrhoids.
