Female incontinence

SERVICE(S): Urology

Urinary incontinence is the involuntary loss of urine.

There are different forms of urine leakage:

  • Exercise-related (stress) incontinence: This form is mainly due to slackening of the pelvic floor muscles, which causes the bladder sphincter to function less well. Urine leakage mainly occurs when pressure (stress) is placed on the bladder during exertion such as sports, coughing, laughing, sneezing, walking and changing position.
  • Urge incontinence: Urine leakage is accompanied by a sudden and urgent need (urgency) to urinate that cannot be stopped.
  • Mixed urinary incontinence: A combination of stress and urge incontinence.
