Consultations with our doctors are by appointment only and by referral with a letter of referral. If you have a referral from your GP or another doctor, you can contact the secretariat of the Multidisciplinary Pain Centre.

Our pain centre offers treatment for both subacute and chronic pain. Acute pain is recently arisen pain, e.g. after surgery, due to cancer or spontaneously arising pain. Chronic pain is by definition pain that has been present for more than 3 to 6 months.

The majority of patients who come to see us have pain in the neck and back region. Through rapid diagnostics and targeted treatments, we try to guide patients quickly through their acute phase and into an accelerated recovery phase.

Cancer pain, pain associated with vascular diseases, certain types of headache, facial pain and pain following surgery are common pains that are treated in the pain clinic.

During an initial consultation of 40 minutes, an extensive anamnesis will take place. We will ask questions about your pain and a clinical examination will take place. With all the collected data, including medical reports and medical imaging reports, the doctor will discuss a treatment with you. The following treatments may be suggested:

  • Starting or adjusting medication
  • Interventional treatment: infiltration or injections
  • Start of MPC trajectory: lifestyle adjustment, physiotherapy...
  • Neurostimulation
  • Combination of treatments

How much does a consultation cost?

All our pain doctors are NIHDI-contracted doctors. This means that the official rates are charged without any fee supplements. So, you only pay the patient share of the consultation fee.

What should you bring to your first consultation?

  • Medication list
  • Referral letter, if any
  • Any previous test results
  • Treatments
