Fertility is considered to be reduced when no pregnancy has occurred after 1 year of regular, unprotected sexual contact.
1. Absence of ovulation (anovulation)
Women with a regular menstrual cycle ovulate monthly. This is, of course, a basic requirement for becoming pregnant. Different hormones play a role in the menstrual cycle. If something goes wrong in the chain reaction of the different hormones, it is possible that ovulation will not occur. This is referred to as anovulation.
Anovulation can be caused by the woman’s body weight being too high or too low, too much stress, and the most common cause: polycystic ovary syndrome (= PCOS).
